"The nature of coaching and the safe space coaches provide is fertile ground for the debilitating thoughts and emotions of fear, stress, and shame to arise. Often these habitual patterns of thought derail the results our clients have hired us to help them achieve. Mindfulness-based coaching practices enable the coach to meet these moments with a mindful response and compassionate guidance; leveraging the fear into powerful, transformative awareness and get the conversation back on track."
- Marnee Weber, creator of Mindfulness-Based Coaching

3 paths to choose from:
Navigate the fear that can derail your coaching conversations with Metta Lane's Mindfulness-Based Coaching.
Out of the blue, fear can arise - when clients are setting big goals, expanding perspectives, trying new ideas, and taking action.
It shows up as:

-
Self-doubt and limiting beliefs
-
Inaction or lack of follow-through on commitments
-
Excuses or constant changes to plans
-
Focus on story-telling instead of commitment-setting
-
Difficult emotions like frustration, anger, and sadness
...to name a few.

How do you respond when your client is reacting to fear?
Do you know how to create the safety needed to move forward?

You can learn to meet the emotions with self-compassion and move through the blocks with mindfulness. Holding both yourself and your client in an embrace of loving connected presence. This presence will provide an authentic, innate motivation that will further both the conversation and the client forward. Deepening a client’s awareness, while creating actions that are significantly more authentic and aligned to their goals. Allowing you to coach with greater ease.
Coaches who complete this course will:
-
Recognize the presence and nature of the client's fear.
-
Be present and compassionate with your own reaction to the fear.
-
Navigate fear's hidden and deceitful ways with questions designed to keep the client safe, yet reveal the truth.
-
Give the client what is needed in a moment of vulnerability.
-
Teach the client new skills they can use to move through the fear in the moment and in the future.
-
Articulate perspectives that shift negative thinking into positive possibilities.
-
Lead exercises and practices that give the client greater access for coping with life stressors, decreasing self-criticism and shame, and increasing inner motivation.
The programs of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindful Self-Compassion are deeply aligned with the International Coach Federation's core competencies.
Which is why I have created the Metta Lane Mindfulness-Based Coaching program; to bring the wisdom of these teachings and practices together.

The content is informed by the teachings of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, as taught by the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness Professional Training Institute, and the Mindful Self-Compassion course, as taught by the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
The practices from these curricula have the capacity to support both the coach and the client. Deeply informing a coach’s presence and skill to effectively lead coaching conversations at the highest level. Enhancing the coach's toolbox with exercises and techniques that can be passed along - both explicitly and implicitly. Nothing furthers a client's growth and transformation quite as effectively as a coach who embodies a loving connected presence.
"Mindfulness is awareness, cultivated by paying attention in a sustained and particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally."
- Jon Kabat-Zinn, creator of MBSR
"Self-compassion is being in a state of loving connected presence by being kind to ourselves, embracing common humanity, and being mindful. When we embrace ourselves, our lives, and others with a sense of loving, connected presence, our experience becomes radically transformed."
- Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher Guide, by Christopher Germer, PhD, and Kristin Neff, PhD, co-creators of Mindful Self-Compassion
